I have always found my hometown to be a remarkably unphotogenic place, which I assumed was to do with overfamiliarity. A place which you have spent so much of your life in, are so bored of and dying to escape from, is a difficult subject. If it holds no appeal to you, how do you capture what might appeal to someone else in a photograph? I focused mostly on portraits, of friends, who I understandably consider to be interesting.
I have been in Tokyo less than two days, so it may be too early for me to make this judgement, yet so far I am finding new subjects equally hard to find. In this case, it is not to do with a lack of personal appeal - otherwise I would not be here. However Tokyo is much the same as any city; a street in a housing estate looks much like a street in any other housing estate.
So my first photograph of the place since touchdown? My equipment. A photo that could have been taken anywhere.
