Whilst I think you're right, the sense of motion isn't conveyed as well as i'd like, I took a lot of shots and this was the only one that really came out clear - it WAS a slow shutter speed (1/30) and anything slower was too blurred to see anything. Perhaps if I was better at tracking moving subjects it could've worked, but it was hard enough at said shutter speed so I don't think I would've achieved any better.

i think that you would have been better with a slightly slower shutter speed here - the figure appears stationary despite the background.
